Effects of oxcarbazepine on cognitive function in children and adolescents with partial seizures.Donati F, Gobbi G, Campistol J, Rapatz G, Daehler M, Sturm Y, Aldenkamp AP, Neurologie, Spitalzentrum Biel, University Hospital, Bern, Switzerland. The authors investigated the effect of oxcarbazepine on cognitive function in children and adolescents (6 to younger than 17 years of age) with newly diagnosed partial seizures in an open-label comparison with standard antiepileptic drug therapy (carbamazepine and valproate). No differences in cognitive tests were observed between oxcarbazepine and carbamazepine/valproate over a 6-month treatment period. Published 22 August 2006 in Neurology, 67(4): 679-82.
